English is an international language that is widely used all around the world. It is very common that everyone wants to learn english which makes things possible. Here we review English Tenses with Examples For Beginners. When it comes to learn english language, the basic building block is english tenses rules which everybody should know about.

We covered all of the straight forward tenses and didn’t add interrogative or negative sentences to avoid any complications because the article has been posted specially for beginners and provided english tenses PDF format in the end of this post. As we know there are 12 basic tenses generally teachers teach their students in academic. We have categorized all of these 12 tenses into 3 sections where each section has 4 tenses. For example: 
 
1- Present indefinite, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous
 
2- Past indefinite, past Continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous
 
3- Future indefinite, future continuous, future perfect and future perfect continuous

English Tenses with Examples (PRESENTS)

Present Indefinite Tense

Present indefinite represents an action that happens on regular basis.
 
Text with red” is used for s,es that is used after singular subject while “text with blue” is used for verb, and “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject.
 
In such sentences, we use (s,es) with He,she,it+singular name and 1st form of verb is used. For example
 
Sentence: Atif goes to school.
 
In this sentence, “go” has been used as a 1st form of verb (1st: go, 2nd: went, 3rd: gone) while es has been used that indicates the singular subject (atif).
 
In case of having a sentence where subject is plural, then s,es should not be used.
For example
 
Sentence: They go to school. 
 
It can be seen that the first form of verb “go” has been used while s,es is missing because of plural subject in the sentence.
 
اس طرح جملوں کے آخر میں تا ہے، تی ہے، تھے ہے وغیرہ آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
 
جملہ: عاطف اسکول جاتا ہے
جملہ: وہ اسکول جاتے ہیں

Present Continuous Tense

Present continuous represents an action that is happening in a current state.
 
Consider the highlighted terms where “text with red” is used for is,am,are, “text with blue” is used for first form of verb + ing and “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject
 
In such sentences, is,am,are is used as helping verbs where “is” used with He,she,it+singular name, “am” used with I and “are” used with we,you,they etc while 1st form of verb + ing is used in this case.
For example
 
Sentence: Ahmad is playing cricket.
 
As it can be seen, “is” has been used due a singular subject (ahmad) is used in the sentence while on the other hand “play” is a first form of verb along with ing has been used in addition.
 
اس طرح جملوں کے آخر میں رہا ہے، رہی ہے، رہا ہوں وغیرہ کا استعمال ہوتا ہے مثال کے طور پر 
 
جملہ: احمد کرکٹ کھیل رہا ہے
جملہ: وہ کرکٹ کھیل رہے ہیں

Present Perfect Tense

Present perfect represents an action that has been done.
 
Make sure to consider the highlighted terms where “text with red” is used for (has,have), “text with blue” is used for third form of verb and “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subjects.
 
Such sentences use has,have as helping verbs where “has” is used with He,she,it+singular name and “have” used with I,we,you,they etc. In this case, third form of verb should be used.
For example
 
Sentence: Ali has sung well.
 
In this matter, ‘has’ is to be used because Ali is a singular subject. Sung is the past participle of sing.
 
اس طرح جملوں کے آخر میں چکا ہے، چکی ہے، چکا ہوں وغیرہ کا استعمال ہوتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
 
جملہ: علی گانا گا چکا ہے
جملہ: میں کھانا کھا چکا ہوں

Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Present perfect continuous represents a verbal or specific time duration on which an action is happening or happened.
Text with red” is used for has been or have been, “text with blue” is used for verb, “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject whiletext with purpleused for since/for.
In present perfect continuous tense, we use has been or have been as helping verb, first form of verb + ing as verb while since or for will be used for time duration.
For example
Sentence: Usman has been working since morning.
Has been is used because Usman is a singular subject while work is the first form of verb in addition with ing and since is used because it is claimed that an action is being done since morning.

Since vs For

Since:- It is preferably used when talk about specific point in time i.e time, year.
For example:- He has been doing a job since 2010.
 
For:- For is used when talking about a period of time duration
Another For example:- He has been calling you for 2 hours.
 
اس جملوں میں ایک خاص وقت کو مدنظر رکھتے ھوے رہا ہے، رہی ہے، رہا ہوں، رہے ہے وغیرہ کا استعمال کیا جاتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ صبح سے کام کر رہا ہے
جملہ: وہ دو گھنٹوں سے ٹیلی ویژن دیکھ رہے ہیں

English Tenses with Examples (PASTS)

Past Indefinite Tense

Past indefinite is a tense which talks about an action that is already done.
Text with blue” indicates verbs while “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject.
2nd form of verb should be used in this sentence.
For example
Sentence: Aslam called you.
اس جملوں کے آخر میں ا، یا، ئی آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: اسلم نے آپکو بلایا
جملہ: اس نے کام کیا

Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous represents an action that was continue in a current state.
Consider the highlighted terms where “text with red” is used for was, were, text with blue” is used for first form of verb + ing and text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject.
 
In such sentences, was and were is used as helping verbs where “was” used with He,she,it+singular name and were used with we,you,they etc while 1st form of verb + ing is used in this case.
For example:
 
Sentence: Amjad was writing an application.
 
In this sentence, “Amjad” is a singular subject, “was” is a helping verb and “writing” is the first form of verb + ing.
 
اس طرح جملوں کے آخر میں رہا تھا ، رہی تھی ، رہے تھے ، رہا ہوں وغیرہ کا استعمال ہوتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
 
جملہ: امجد درخواست لکھ رہا تھا
جملہ: وہ سبق پڑھ رہے تھے

Past Perfect Tense

Past perfect tense basically expresses the events and actions that were done prior. This sounds similar to simple past indefinite. In spoken english, It is ok if a sentence is used in simple past in place of past perfect.
 
Keep in mind that the “text with red” is used for (had), “text with blue” is used for third form of verb and “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subjects.
 
Such sentences use “had” as helping verb. In this case, third form of verb should be used.
For example:
Sentence: They had met him after the party.
 
They (plural), had (helping verb) and met (3rd form of verb)
 
ان جملوں کے آخر میں چکا تھا، چکی تھی، چکے تھے وغیرہ کا استعمال ہوتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ پارٹی میں جا چکے تھے
جملہ: وہ انکو پارٹی کے بعد مل چکے تھے

Past Perfect Continuous Tense

This tense also known as past perfect progressive tense. It represents an action that was started in the past continued until the next time in the past and is typically constructed using “had been” along with base form + ing. This tense include “Since/For” for the same reason discussed above in present perfect continuous tense.
Text with red” is used for had been, “text with blue” is used for verb, “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject while “text with purple” used for since/for.
 
For example:
 
Sentence: He had been watching television since morning
 
He > singular subject, had been > helping verb, watching > base verb + ing and since > morning
 
اس جملوں میں ایک خاص وقت کو مدنظر رکھتے ھوے رہا تھا ، رہی تھی ، رہے تھے وغیرہ کا استعمال کیا جاتا ہے مثال کے  طور پر
جملہ: وہ صبح سے ٹیلی ویژن دیکھ رہا تھا

English Tenses with Examples (FUTURES)

Future Indefinite Tense

Future indefinite tense indicates that an action has not yet done but will happen at some other point in the future.
Will” or “shall” used in this form of sentence. Today, “will” takes place everywhere in future sentences where people don’t prefer to use “shall”. Future tense carries first form of verb.
 
We have colorized in different texts to make it even more clear to understand. “Text with red” is used for will/shall as helping forms, “text with blue” is used for verb while “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject.
For example:
Sentence: Ahmad will scold him.
Ahmad > singular subject, will > helping verb, scold > base form of verb
 
ایسے جملوں کے آخر میں گا ،گے ،گی آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ کل پیپر دینے اسکول جاینگے

Future Continuous Tense

Future continuous tense also known as future progressive tense. It tells us that something will happen in the future for estimated length of time.

Will be/shall be” are the helping verbs where base form of verb + ing is used.
 
Helping verbs have been put in red color, verb is highlighted by blue color while orange color is nominated for singular or plural subject.
 
For example:
 
Sentence: He will be struggling hard to win the competition.
He > singular subject, will be > helping verb and struggling > present participle
 
ایسے جملوں کے آخر میں رہا ہوگا ،رہے ہونگے،رہی ہوگی، رہا ہوںگا وغیرہ آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ مقابلہ جیتنے کی پوری کوشش کر رہے ہونگے

Future Perfect Tense

Future perfect tense indicates an event in the future will take place which will have a definitive end point.
text with red” is used for (will have/shall have), “text with blue” is used for third form of verb and “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subjects.
 
In this case, will have/shall have and third form of verb are used to indicate the future perfect tense.
 
For example:
 
Sentence: He will have learnt the lesson.
He > singular subject, Will have > helping verb, learnt > third form of verb
 
ایسے جملوں کے آخر میں چکا ہوگا ، چکی ہوگی ،چکے ہونگے ،چکا ہونگا وغیرہ آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ سبق یاد کر چکے ہونگے

Future Perfect Continuous Tense

Future perfect continuous tense sometime also known as future perfect progressive tense. It describes an action will take place in the future until it reaches to its point.
Text with red” is used for will have been/shall have been as helping verbs, “text with blue” is used for verb, “text with orange” is used for singular or plural subject while “text with purple” used for since/for.
 
For example:
 
Sentence: He will have been playing pubg since morning
He > singular subject, will have been > helping verb, playing > present participle, since > morning
 
ایسے جملوں کے آخر میں رہا ہوگا ، رہی ہوگی ، رہے ہونگے ، رہا ہونگا وغیرہ آتا ہے مثال کے طور پر
جملہ: وہ صبح سے پب جی کھیل رہا ہوگا
